I saw this article from the global village magazine. I t talked about the child prodigy about the Australia's whiz kid, Terence Tao. He was the first Australian to win the Fields Medal, the world’s highest award in mathematics. All of the people who know him are calling him a “child prodigy”. Not only because he won the award but since his childhood. In his childhood, he knew the alphabetical and numerical order when he was mot quite two years old. And he studied in the regular school only for few weeks then turned to the private school for the gifted. When he was 9years old, he was the level of university math. Now he is 23 years old and teaches at UCLA for math faculty.
After reading this article, I thought Terence Tao was really a legend. Not only because his intellect but his ability to solve the problem.
And the most important thing is that child prodigies may be excluded by his peers when they were little children. And they might think their peers dull. How could Terence Tao endure the kind of situation in his growing.
We could see some news about the intelligent students who could not endure the stress from other’s focus. Some might skip grade because their smart but their mental might not get the same level. So they could solve the problem of the class but they could not handle the social relationship.
It is very important to balance their brainpower and mental power by themselves. Because of that many people are paying attention on their achievement and giving the high expectation.
